Quantum gravity as a consistent local field theory
We show that the Einstein-Hilbert action for the gravitational field can be derived as a linear low-energy approximation for the dynamical massless fields in the theory with the lagrangian quadratic in the gauge field strength-tensor of spin connection under the spontaneous breaking of symmetry by a vacuum state with nontrivial background strength-tension.
متن کامل4-dimensional Bf Theory as a Topological Quantum Field Theory
Starting from a Lie group G whose Lie algebra is equipped with an invariant nondegenerate symmetric bilinear form, we show that 4-dimensional BF theory with cosmological term gives rise to a TQFT satisfying a generalization of Atiyah's axioms to manifolds equipped with principal G-bundle. The case G = GL(4; R) is especially interesting because every 4-manifold is then naturally equipped with a ...
متن کاملDefects in Higher-Dimensional Quantum Field Theory
The present work is addressed to defects and boundaries in quantum field theory considering the application to AdS/CFT correspondence. We examine interactions of fermions with spins localised on these boundaries. Therefore, an algebra method is emphasised adding reflection and transmission terms to the canonical quantisation prescription. This method has already been applied to bosons in two sp...
متن کاملD-Theory: Field Theory via Dimensional Reduction of Discrete Variables
A new non-perturbative approach to quantum field theory — D-theory — is proposed, in which continuous classical fields are replaced by discrete quantized variables which undergo dimensional reduction. The 2-d classical O(3) model emerges from the (2 + 1)-d quantum Heisenberg model formulated in terms of quantum spins. Dimensional reduction is demonstrated explicitly by simulating correlation le...
متن کاملToward a Finite-dimensional Formulation of Quantum Field Theory
Rules of quantization and equations of motion for a finite-dimensional formulation of quantum field theory are proposed which fulfill the following properties: (a) Both the rules of quantization and the equations of motion are covariant; (b) the equations of evolution are second order in derivatives and first order in derivatives of the spacetime coordinates; and (c) these rules of quantization...
